Marc R. Deshaies is a partner at Perry, Hicks and Deshaies. He was both admitted to the practice of law and joined the the firm in 1987. His practice reflects over 20 years of progressive private client based experience focusing on real estate issues including land use, zoning, development and real estate permitting and title matters. Mr. Deshaies has extensive expertise in local permitting matters, practicing before local area planning and zoning boards and conservation commissions. Additionally, Attorney Deshaies practices in the areas of estate planning for individuals, families and same-sex couples, wealth management, probate law including estate administration and guardianships as well as business and municipal law.

Mr. Deshaies has represented a metro-Boston based developer before local planning and zoning boards in the permitting of the adaptive reuse and rehabilitation of The 1846 Wamustta Mills building into 250 units of residential housing; A 100 unit residential development on the Acushnet River Victoria Riverside and a mixed use development – Brickyard Studios. He has also represented separate area non-profit organizations in their development of a 37 unit elderly housing complex in an abandoned warehouse and another in their 2.7 million dollar refinance of their residential complex with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to representing private clients, he has acted as assistant Town Counsel for the Towns of Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Marion and Rochester. Currently, he acts as Special Counsel to the Wareham Fire District and the Board of Sewer Commissioners of the Town of Wareham in their water and sewer expansion project, the Fairhaven Planning and Economic Development Department and the Town of Berkley Zoning Board of Appeals.

Mr. Deshaies is General Counsel to the Coalition for Buzzards Bay and has acted as Title Counsel for many of its land preservation acquisitions.

Attorney Deshaies is a member of the Massachusetts and New Bedford Bar Associations and the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts formerly known as the Massachusetts Conveyancers Association.

Involved in civic activities, Mr. Deshaies has served as the incorporator and legal counsel for non-profit organizations and has attained IRS tax exempt recognition for the Fairhaven-Acushnet Land Preservation Trust, Inc., the Old Rochester Educational Foundation, Inc., the Raynham Food Basket, Inc., The Matty Oliveira Foundation, Inc. and the Marion Mattapoisett Rochester Housing Cooperative, Inc. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Buzzards Bay for many years.

Marc Deshaies is a south coast native born in Acushnet, and raised and educated in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Attorney Deshaies received his Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude from Bryant University; a Master of Public Affairs degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University; and his law degree from the New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts in 1987.

Mr. Deshaies is married to the former Katherine Shanahan of Fairhaven and they have two children, Matthew and Megan.
